7Energy - BüRgerenergiegemeinschaft (BEG)

7Energy is an Austrian energy community (Bürgerenergiegemeinschaft) that lets members exchange renewable surplus electricity directly with each other at fair, transparent prices, without traditional utilities or middlemen. It serves both electricity producers (PV, wind, hydro) and consumers across Austria, aiming to lower costs, support 100% renewable electricity, and contribute to Austria's 2030 climate neutrality goals.

Description

7Energy operates as a citizen energy community (Bürgerenergiegemeinschaft) in Austria, enabling members who produce renewable electricity (solar, wind, or hydro) to sell their surplus power directly to other members at fair, transparent prices, bypassing large electricity corporations and intermediaries. Members join via an online registration form, top up a settlement account (Verrechnungskonto), and are then registered with their local grid operator; excess production and remaining consumption needs are handled automatically with residual electricity going to or coming from standard suppliers (e.g., ÖMAG, EVN). The organization offers fixed-rate tariffs for producers (PV, water, wind feed-in) and consumers (Austria Fix, Regional Fix), along with a gifting tariff ("Strom schenken") allowing members to donate electricity to others. 7Energy targets private individuals and households across Austria who are electricity producers or consumers, emphasizing automation, low fees, regional value creation, and independence from traditional energy suppliers.
