Description
The Accord Project builds and maintains open source software and specifications for smart legal contracts, allowing legal text drafted by lawyers to be interpreted by courts and executed by software from the same template. Its core technology stack includes Cicero, a templating system that converts natural-language contract text into structured, executable templates combining a data model, agreement text, and optional business logic; and Concerto, a JavaScript schema language and runtime for defining data models used across contracts and computable documents. Additional resources include the Template Playground (an online editor for building and testing smart agreements), a Template Library of Apache-2 licensed contract and clause templates, a Model Repository of Concerto models, and a VS Code extension for template and model development. The project is governed through the Linux Foundation via a Technical Steering Committee and open source contributors, with all software Apache 2.0 licensed. Its architecture is designed to be technology neutral, interoperable across cloud, blockchain, and IoT infrastructure, and increasingly built for the agentic era, integrating with AI agent workflows via the Model Context Protocol. It serves transactional attorneys, business and finance professionals, developers, and organizations such as DocuSign, IBM, Hyperledger, and numerous law firms that support and use its technology.
