Description

Bitcoin Core is an open source software project descended from the original Bitcoin client released by Satoshi Nakamoto after publishing the Bitcoin whitepaper. The project develops and maintains 'Bitcoin Core,' full-node software for fully validating the Bitcoin blockchain, along with an integrated bitcoin wallet, and related software such as the libsecp256k1 cryptography library hosted on GitHub. Bitcoin Core has a large open source developer community consisting of maintainers, who have commit access and merge patches, and a broad base of contributors who provide code, research, peer review, testing, documentation, and translation. The project regularly issues software releases, publishes security advisories and CVE disclosures, and maintains documentation, RPC docs, and a defined software life-cycle and maintenance policy. Its users and clients are primarily individuals and businesses running Bitcoin full nodes and wallets, including miners, enterprises, and other participants in the Bitcoin network.
