Coordinape

Coordinape was a web3 tool that helped decentralized teams and DAOs recognize contributions, allocate compensation, and build trust among peers using a peer-to-peer GIVE token mechanism. It served DAOs and decentralized organizations such as Gitcoin, Bankless, Olympus, Index Coop, and Synthetix from 2021 until the app sunset in 2025.

Description

Coordinape originated inside Yearn Finance in 2020 to solve the problem of fairly compensating contributors in a large, decentralized treasury without relying on managers or token holders. It launched publicly in early 2021 and was rapidly adopted by dozens of leading DAOs during the 'DAO summer,' using a mechanic called GIVE, where each circle member received tokens each epoch to distribute to teammates as recognition, with rewards allocated based on peer consensus rather than committees or algorithms. Over four years, the platform expanded with features like CSV vouching, the CoLinks social graph, and eventually the Social Oracle — an onchain attestation system on Base that recorded over 64,000 attestations of peer recognition. In 2024 Coordinape launched the $CO token on Base, which powered access to the Social Oracle and governance participation, and transitioned control from the founding team to CoDAO, a community of $CO token holders. The Coordinape app officially sunset in 2025, with contracts wound down, though CoDAO continues to steward the project's intellectual property and history. The organization served thousands of contributors across hundreds of DAOs and decentralized organizations globally.
