Salt Spring Island, CA
Description
DeFood (Decentralized Food Security Network) aims to address food insecurity by decentralizing and re-localizing food systems in the face of climate change, supply chain disruption, and resource scarcity. Using Salt Spring Island as a model community, DeFood combines social networks with blockchain technology to create a trusted food aggregation system that supports localized food production, processing and distribution, carbon sequestration, localized trade, and digital currencies. The organization presents its work as a replicable and scalable model intended to be applied to small and large communities worldwide, engaging local farmers, producers, and community members rather than a specific commercial client base.Grant Funding
