GainForest is a non-profit building open tools for regenerative intelligence, combining decentralized science (DeSci), AI, and local-first technology to help communities document and verify ecological stewardship. It powers a global map ('the Globe') and verifiable environmental impact certificates ('Certs') built on ATProto, connecting grassroots communities, Indigenous scientists, and conservation partners with donors, foundations, and allies worldwide.

GainForest positions itself as 'a Planetary Computer for ReFi powered by DeSci and AI,' building open tools that let communities self-host fieldwork data on ATProto and turn it into verifiable, portable environmental impact records called Certs, which bind photos, audio, and field notes into signed proof of ecological stewardship. Its Globe product streams live project pins from over 850 nature projects worldwide, letting supporters discover and fund community-led restoration and conservation work directly, while data flows onward to partners like Ma Earth and Hypercerts without lock-in. The organization runs three open research pillars — AI Assistants (led by its Taina storyteller AI co-designed with Indigenous communities in Greater Manaus), Bioacoustics (passive listening stations and open species classifiers), and Remote Sensing (satellite/drone canopy and carbon analysis) — and convenes a rotating Nature Guild of community scientists, ecologists, and field leads to steer research priorities.
