Description
HODL Totals provides a free, open-source (MIT licensed) Google Sheets add-on that empowers individual cryptocurrency holders to independently manage crypto tax compliance rather than paying for expensive proprietary tax services. The tool offers comprehensive transaction tracking (dates, IDs, coin flows, real-time pricing, wallet and address information), a reconciliation feature to verify wallet/account balances against recorded transactions, and a customizable Categories sheet to support different tax reporting strategies. Once data is verified, the add-on automatically calculates profit and loss, short-term and long-term capital gains, and overall coin totals using the FIFO cost method, and it also supports NFT and DeFi transaction tracking. The project is maintained by Daring-Crypto-Ventures, was launched at a SXSW 2023 workshop, and is primarily used by individual retail crypto holders with numerous transactions who are not large enough to justify costly professional tax services; community support and feedback happen via its Discord server.
