Description

KUMO provides software infrastructure and financial frameworks that enable institutional debt participation in the carbon removal market. The platform combines automated data aggregation, pre-deal assessments based on its Carbon-Debt Financeability Framework, and standardized tools to reduce transactional costs and improve risk management for lenders. Using a Luxembourg-based securitization structure developed with a tier-1 law firm, KUMO treats carbon credits as legal collateral to secure loans, enabling novel financial products such as structured debt portfolios and bond securitization. In Q4 2023, KUMO ran a proof of concept with ABN AMRO's Sustainability and Digital Assets team, using tokenization and smart contracts to facilitate the first-ever carbon-backed loan, channeling funding to Vlinder, a mangrove project developer. KUMO serves two main client types: capital providers, who gain new revenue streams via de-risked, carbon-backed lending with reduced structuring and lifecycle costs, and project developers, who use KUMO's free Loan Modeler and network of capital and insurance providers to access debt financing against off-take agreements or other collateral.
