Light Protocol

Light Protocol

Light is a protocol built on Solana that introduces ZK compression, a primitive that enables secure scaling directly on the L1. This allows for hyperscaling state by reducing on-chain state costs by orders of magnitude, while preserving the security and performance of the Solana L1.

Description

Light Protocol is a protocol built on Solana that introduces ZK compression, a primitive that enables secure scaling directly on the L1. It allows developers and users to compress their on-chain state, significantly reducing state costs while maintaining the security, performance, and composability of the Solana L1. In addition to classic on-chain compute, Light supports custom ZK compute, opening up new design spaces for computation on Solana. The protocol uses zero-knowledge proofs to ensure the integrity of the compressed state, with the underlying data stored on the cheaper Solana ledger while state roots are stored in on-chain accounts.
