Description
Obyte operates a fully decentralized, DAG-based distributed ledger network (formerly known as Byteball) founded by Tony Churyumoff in 2016, with its network launched in December 2016 and the Obyte Foundation established in 2019. Unlike blockchains, Obyte removes block producers and other centralized intermediaries, allowing users to add transactions to the ledger directly. The platform provides a range of technologies for developers and end users, including Autonomous Agents (written in the Oscript language) for building DeFi applications such as stablecoins, decentralized exchanges, and prediction markets; human-readable Smart Contracts and Prosaic Contracts for conditional payments and peer-to-peer agreements; Oracles for bringing off-chain data on-chain; a Self-Sovereign Identity system with attestation bots for verified credentials; Payment Channels for IoT and micropayment use cases; a token-issuance framework; and Blackbytes, a private, untraceable currency. Its native currency GBYTE is traded on several exchanges and DEXes (Oswap, ODEX, NonKYC, Biconomy, Uniswap, PancakeSwap, QuickSwap, etc.). The Obyte team, community developers, and independent order providers maintain the network's tooling, wallets (desktop, mobile, GUI), explorer, documentation, and community governance processes, serving developers building DeFi/dApps, merchants, and everyday users seeking a censorship-resistant, decentralized payments and smart-contract platform.
