Orne.io is a project focused on sustainable forestry financed through NFTs. The company purchases land, plants trees, and represents each tree with an NFT containing its metadata. To create an NFT, Orne locks 50% of the tree's value in a smart contract as $ORNE tokens. These NFTs can be traded, making the forest a liquid resource. When a tree is harvested, the NFT owner can exchange (burn) their NFT to receive the value from the tree's sale. The locked tokens are used to remunerate the owner, with Orne covering any shortfall or collecting any surplus.
