As a decentralized social network without a central server, it can work offline. The name is sea-slang for gossip. The ecosystem is designed for off-grid living and disaster resilience, avoiding the walled-garden model of traditional platforms. The Secure Scuttlebutt Consortium (SSBC) is a group of developers and community members involved in its development and growth, which also manages grants for the community.
