SeaBrick

SeaBrick develops floating, interlocking construction blocks made primarily of seaweed (kelp) that are stronger and lighter than concrete. The company targets marine and offshore construction applications such as docks, bridges, barges, marinas, ports, and floating platforms, as well as land-based uses as a concrete replacement. It engages early supporters through the SeaBrick Society Co-Op, which funds cooperative kelp farming and construction projects.

Description

SeaBrick is developing a modular construction product made primarily of seaweed that forms floating, interlocking building blocks. These bricks offer roughly triple the compression strength of concrete (60MPa) at half the weight, are buoyant, water resistant, durable, easy to manufacture, and environmentally friendly to dispose of. The intended applications span apartments, hotels, restaurants, docks, bridges, barges, wave breaks, kelp farms, power platforms, marinas, ports, levees, and other offshore infrastructure, with potential future variations for land-based use as a concrete substitute. SeaBrick bricks are planned to be available for sale in Q2 2026 to builders as modular kits or brick sets. In the near term, the company is inviting early supporters to join the SeaBrick Society Co-Op, enabling them to help fund and receive dividends from its first cooperative project, Kelp Island 01 — a virtual kelp farm built on a decommissioned oil rig in the North Pacific, planned for Q4 2025. Additional projects in early planning include modular float homes, offshore wind and solar energy platforms, and marina infrastructure. The company notes that SeaBrick is in early development and has not yet completed extended marine environment testing.
