Shamba Network

Shamba Network is a decentralized climate data oracle that brings satellite and ground-truthed climate data on-chain in a tamper-proof way. It enables carbon credits, parametric insurance, and climate finance applications by aggregating data from multiple independent providers, serving farmers, insurers, carbon market participants, and climate finance institutions primarily in East Africa.

Description

Shamba Network builds a decentralized oracle network that gets verifiable satellite and ground-truth climate data onto blockchains, addressing problems like the high cost of manual carbon audits, the massive uninsured farmer population in sub-Saharan Africa, and oracle manipulation in DeFi. Its system relies on three types of independent data providers—node operators fetching satellite data from NASA, ESA, NOAA, and JAXA, ground truthers collecting field data via a mobile app, and data validators reviewing edge cases—combined through multi-layer aggregation with staking and slashing to ensure accuracy before delivering consensus-verified data to smart contracts on Arbitrum, Avalanche, Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, and the XRPL EVM Sidechain. The organization's technology powers parametric insurance, carbon and impact credits, climate finance and green bonds, prediction markets, and conditional donations, with documented deployments protecting thousands of smallholder farmers across East Africa in partnership with organizations such as Chainlink, Mercy Corps Ventures, Filecoin, Ripple, Regen Network, and DIVA Protocol.
