Description
Skycoin is a third-generation cryptocurrency and blockchain platform designed to build a new, decentralized internet, addressing the shortcomings of earlier cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. The ecosystem is built on several core components: Skywire, a community-driven, incentivized mesh network providing private and secure internet access; Fiber, an infinitely scalable parallel peer-chain architecture for customizable blockchains; CX, a Turing-complete programming language for distributed application development; and Obelisk, a web-of-trust consensus algorithm that is energy-efficient, immune to 51% attacks, and avoids the centralization issues of PoW and PoS. The project is supported by custom hardware, the Skyminer, which acts as the backbone for the Skywire network, rewarding users for providing resources. The platform also includes applications like Skycoin BBS for decentralized social media and SkyMessenger for encrypted messaging, with all code being open-source to foster community involvement.
