It was established in Zug, Switzerland by Ethereum co-founder and former CTO Dr. Gavin Wood. The foundation's primary focus is on the Polkadot and Kusama networks, providing grants and support to projects that contribute to their ecosystems. They support a wide range of projects, from low-level infrastructure to user-facing applications, with the goal of fostering a secure, decentralized, and user-controlled internet. Polkadot is the flagship project of the Web3 Foundation.
