Web3.Js

Web3.js is a JavaScript/TypeScript library, established in 2014, that enables developers to build decentralized applications (dApps) on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains. It provides tools to deploy and interact with smart contracts, manage accounts and transactions, and query blockchain state, serving developers building on Ethereum and EVM chains.

Description

Web3.js is the oldest web3 library, first established in 2014, providing extensive documentation, an active community, and a modular design for building dApps on Ethereum and any EVM-compatible chain using TypeScript or JavaScript. It allows developers to deploy and interact with smart contracts as TS/JS objects, subscribe to on-chain or smart contract events, interact with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), create and import accounts, sign data and transactions, and retrieve block and state information from Ethereum nodes. The library offers abstractions over the JSON-RPC API, dynamic contract types with full TypeScript support, an efficient ABI encoder/decoder, ESM and CJS module builds, and custom output formatters. Its clients include RPC infrastructure providers, DeFi platforms, and plugin developers building on top of the Ethereum ecosystem. Notably, Web3.js libraries were announced to be sunset on March 4th, 2025, with users directed to migration guides via a Chainsafe blog post.
