Description

Witnet Randomness Oracle generates verifiable random numbers for smart contracts through cryptographic commitments made by multiple validator nodes on the Witnet blockchain, with each node contributing entropy that is aggregated and made unpredictable until reveal time. Smart contracts request randomness by calling deployed oracle contracts on their respective chains, paying fees in native tokens which are bridged to compensate Witnet validators, with the resulting random values delivered through bridge relayers after validation consensus. The oracle ensures unpredictability through commit-reveal schemes where validators stake collateral and risk slashing for non-participation or manipulation attempts, making it suitable for applications requiring provably fair random number generation including NFT minting, gaming outcomes, and lottery systems.
