Description
Monacoin is presented as the first alternative cryptocurrency developed in Japan, built on a Lyra2RE(v2) proof-of-work algorithm with a 1.5 minute block time, 12.5 MONA block reward, a total supply of 105,120,000 coins, subsidy halving roughly every 3 years, and per-block difficulty retargeting via Dark Gravity Wave v3. The coin was not premined, meaning the Monacoinproject developers and users have had equal conditions for obtaining coins since launch. While Monacoinproject develops and maintains the main Monacoin Core client (currently distributed for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, ARM, and RISC-V) and publishes its source code, GPG signatures, and release notes on GitHub, it does not issue or manage the currency itself and has no affiliation with 2channel/5channel or its associated companies. The project serves the broader Monacoin community and users, who have organically built Mona-based web applications, services, and cultural practices (such as tipping games called "monage") around the coin; lightweight wallet clients such as Electrum Mona and the Android app Coinomi are recommended third-party tools for users who do not want to run the full blockchain.
