Rootstock operates a Bitcoin Layer 2/sidechain that combines Bitcoin proof-of-work security with EVM-compatible smart contracts. Its network supports Solidity-based dApps, node operations, RPC access, bridges, developer tools, and Bitcoin DeFi use cases such as lending, borrowing, trading, staking, and payments. BTC can be represented as rBTC, a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed asset used for network fees and smart-contract interactions; the PowPeg provides Bitcoin-to-rBTC bridging.
